The Two Minds of Mankind
We tend to think in terms of our brain, but within our brain, reside two separate minds that cooperate and sometimes compete with each other. The interplay and communication between Conscious and Subconscious Mind is a fascinating study. Increasing our knowledge of the way in which our brain functions has the potential to bring enlightenment and more efficient and effective functioning of our brain enabling us to accomplish our goals more quickly and with less stress.
Two Distinct Ways to Process Information
The first thing that our brain does is gather input from the senses. What we hear, see, taste, smell, and feel are gathered from the proper body part and transferred to the mind. This is where we interpret all that sensory input. The purpose of all these mental manipulations is to determine what is actually happening. The second wave of cerebral activity is to determine what we do in response to what is happening. Electrical, chemical and mechanical impulses are exchanged for the purpose of directing specific parts of the body to take prescribed actions. It is important to note that these two distinct processes occur in both the subconscious and conscious levels of the brain. Thus, a great deal of communication and coordination between these two minds occurs.
The conscious mind is the area in which awareness occurs. It is where analysis, comparisons, and evaluations are made. Here in the conscious mind is where all voluntary muscular movement is managed. It is where we choose to delete or focus on specific information that we retrieve from our senses. The conscious mind makes the conscious decisions. Given all the amazing functions and responsibilities of the conscious mind, it is astonishing to note only 10 percent of our mental activity takes place in the conscious mind.
We tend to think that our conscious mind is the boss telling the unconscious mind what to do, but when we sleep, the subconscious mind takes over. The subconscious mind holds all the memories of everything that has happened to you in your lifetime. It is in control of all your involuntary actions. It controls your breathing, digestion, the circulation of your blood throughout your body. Every involuntary action from the blinking of the eye to feeling cold, hungry or thirsty is initiated into the subconscious mind. In addition, the subconscious mind is a problem solver that never sleeps. This is why we often discover the answers to our problems in the morning after we have had a good night sleep.
Although the two minds have distinct and vital roles, neither can function without the other. When you come to Moving Minds Hypnotherapy Gold Coast for weight loss, you are brought there by your conscious mind. However, when you leave with the desire to eat healthy, nonfattening foods in just the correct amounts while enjoying exercising more than ever before, those suggestions are stored in and emanate from the subconscious mind.
