The Critical Area of the Mind
This is the area of the brain in which thoughts are stored. It is partly subconscious and partly analytical because it has been taught by life’s experience to avoid anything that brings danger. This it does automatically. Thus, you avoid touching fire without conscious thought. This area of the brain merely holds thought until sleep occurs or the conscious mind is suspended as during a hypnotic induction. Once this takes place, the message units are either discarded or let go into the Modern Memory area of the mind.
The Modern Memory Area of the Mind
In this area, some thoughts are analyzed, and they pass into the modern memory, others are vented or discarded through dreams. Those thoughts which flow into the modern memory will, in time, settle into different areas of the Primitive mind.
Primitive Area of the Mind
If too many message units to deal with are received, anxiety will occur and it will be impossible to sleep or escape hyper-suggestibility. The result is the critical area becomes less critical and bad habits may be formed because they are dropped directly into this area without being analyzed. The longer a suggestion resides in the modern memory, the weaker and more distorted it will become.
